Empowering Kids for a Healthy Future

bikeNOW is dedicated to fostering a healthier and happier future for kids through cycling. Our programs aim to address the current challenges faced by children, such as reduced activity levels, health concerns, and increased reliance on technology. By providing in-school cycling activities, we equip students with essential skills, contributing to their overall well-being.

Bikes encourage kids to ride with friends, not message them,
they are free to feel the wind on their faces and fresh air in their lungs.
Give a kid a bike and you give them a better future!

We are looking into the future, with the increased availability of e-bikes and ever increasing cycling infrastructure. Cycling into our future is key to reducing congestion, helping our environment and improving our health, we are preparing our kids for the future

The Problem:

Modern-day challenges, including obesity, isolation, diabetes, ADHD, body image issues, and anxiety, affect today’s youth. Research shows that over 43% of young people are concerned about various issues, impacting their mental and physical health. Despite the proven benefits of cycling, less than 6% of kids use it for transport due to barriers like lack of skills, access, and parental support.

If Leave it to chance with very little training available, kids end up teaching themselves or each other or not ride at all.

Our Solution:

BikeNOW offers in-school programs designed to overcome barriers. Our activities are tailored from cycling incident data building skills that prevent real risks. Our program is easy for schools to implement, with no need for any school staff qualifications or complex logistics. Using our seamless booking process, schools can effortlessly incorporate our services into their curriculum.

Medical Research:

We are actively drawing from medical research to understand how cycling positively influences cognitive function, learning, and overall well-being in kids. Dr. Allan Reiss from Stanford Medical School, provides insight from programs like ‘Riding for Focus’ indicating improvements in attention, learning, mood, improved thinking, greater happiness, decreased anxiety and depression, and better academic performance especially in students with ADHD. We continue to explore the broader benefits of cycling on mental and physical health.

Statistics:

Despite the decline in kids using bikes due to perceived risks, statistics reveal that most cycling accidents are avoidable with proper education. Of the 1.34 million cycling trips in Australia per day, 73% of accidents requiring medical attention did not involve other vehicles. This means, most incidents are due to rider errors such as slipping, front brake control on corners, poor judgement of speed, poor control over rough terrain etc, has led to these accidents.

By addressing the real risks through skills and knowledge, we aim to decrease these incidents and make cycling a safer and more accessible activity.

Conclusion:

BikeNOW is committed to making cycling safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Our programs not only reduce the risk of mental and physical health issues but also contribute to addressing broader societal challenges, including urban congestion and environmental impact.
